If you are like me, I hate “rest” days! I don’t take them very often, and when I do the thoughts in my head often make the day not so enjoyable. However, I am starting to learn the importance of rest and how it can lead to better training in the future.
One of the biggest issues people seem to have with rest days is that they often times become cheat days. If you are not training, it is much easier to slack off a little and not follow your plan as you normally would. Remember, exercise is probably 10-20% of the equation: how we eat and rest is the other 80-90%!
So, what do we do? Plan your rest days! They serve a very important role in building your body! Just because it is a rest day doesn’t mean you have to sit on the couch all day! There are so many other options out there! Here are a few examples:
- Go for a bike ride
- Go for a hike
- Walk the dog
- Spend time with family
- HAVE FUN
One of the best ways to use your rest day, is to prepare your meals for the week ahead! This not only makes it much easier to stick to your plan during the week, but also keeps your mind focused on your health and fitness journey!
